The Bullets & Numbering buttons in the ribbon-based versions of Microsoft Word are found in the paragraph section of the Home tab. Each have a drop-down menu featuring the gallery of built-in choices (it will also show you ones you're used recently), as well as menu items for creating your own numbering scheme. 

3. How to insert symbol

 1) please process following steps to insert checkbox symbol in word.

2) Step 1 : click symbol group of insert tab.

3) step 2 : select more symbol from symbol function. see screenshot.

4) step 3 : choose wingdings 2 from font draw down list, and select the checkbox you need and click insert
